Synopsis

De Sikkari, a world full of magick and wonder and blended technology. Floating skycities, supported by lucavite, soar far above the continents and oceans. It is a world where creatures of myth and legend roam freely. A world fraught with an unknown danger, for the magick binding the Nagali Al’dhumarna in his confinement upon the Isle of Whispers has begun to fail. It is 2013, the Year of the Golden Hart, a year of awakening and change, especially for Kalla kyl’Solidor, a mage of Cryshal Kanlon. Kalla has gone to find a magister, the guardians who serve as protectors and energy sources for their magi. Kalla finds more than she bargained for when the skycity she is visiting comes under attack by fire wyvern, dragon-kin who normally shun humans and keep to themselves. In the aftermath of the battle Kalla and her magister find a wounded wyvern. Rather than allow the creature to be slaughtered, Kalla heals it, learning, in the process, that the wyvern had been drugged and set to attack. A fire-scrying reveals that it wasn’t an isolated event. All across De Sikkari, dragon-kin and other creatures had been enslaved and set against city and skycity alike. The scrying sets Kalla and her magister on a journey which will profoundly change them in ways they could never imagine.

***This is part of a serialized larger book. They are not prequel/sequels, but were intended to be one whole book. Due to repeat requests, they are being released in smaller sections first. The next two parts will be out very soon, as they are already complete!

What is the Tag Line for your book? (A short description of your book in a sentence or two)

"Auguries of destruction be a lullaby for rebirth." ~Key to Twilight. Really, this is the tag line of my life. A very valuable lesson to hold on to.

Do you write full time or part time

I write when I have the spoons to do so. I do have a 'at the very least' goal of 500 words/ day. Doing anything whilst struggling with chronic health issues can be fun.

Why do you write? (Example; For fun, to make extra money, a personal experience you want to share with the public)

Really, its all for my own pleasure. I enjoy the world I walk, and I enjoy sharing that world with those interested in it.

What are you working on right now / or your most recent work

Right now I am tidying up the chapters for the second volume of Worldshaper, and actively working on Evalyce: The Language of the Trees. It's a mystery set in Sam world/realm as Worldshaper. Current works in progress can be found on Wattpad.

What inspired you to create this book

Hmm. A very dear and close friend was in a motorcycle accident, and in a coma for many months. About a week in, I began having a driving urge to put down this story, for her. It's evolved a lot since then!

What genre do you write in and why did you choose it

Science fantasy. It's what tugs my heartstrings. I also write poetry.

Do you recommend being a part of a support groups to help you with your writing

Yes

Do you work with an editor If so, how much input do they have

I work with two, and they have a lot of influence on me. Don't know where is be without them.

Was there anyone in your past that you think influenced your writing

My paternal grandmother. She encouraged my creativity. I wish she were here to see this achievement. Bethie, the friend who inadvertently prompted me to open the door to De Sikkari.

How are you publishing this book? (Indie / self-published, traditional)

Indie/self-published.

What are your thoughts on book series

Love them. You can get so immersed in a world with book series. Just need to know when to wind it down, like TV shows.

How long do you think a book should be? (Pages or words)

As long as it needs to be to tell the story.

What advice would you give to your younger self today

Auguries of destruction be a lullaby for rebirth. Seriously. I'd tell my younger self that the coming destruction is well worth what comes after. I lost an eye near two decades ago. This redefined everything about who I thought I was, and what I thought I would be doing.

What is your favorite book or film

Jurassic Park and Jurrasic World, though really, that's kinda like asking a MA to pick her favourite child.....

What are you working on next

Evalyce: The Dragon Wars- a parallel to Worldshaper from a different viewpoint.Evalyce: The Watcher in the Walls- a horror story

When you get frustrated, how do you deal with it

Chocolate. And reading. I read quite a bit. Books are my security blanket. Never without one. Or more! My Kindle is the best investment I ever made!

What advice would you give a writer that is just starting out

Patience and persistence! And good, supportive friends.
